The exhibition 'R.B. Kitaj - The Retrospective ' opens July 19 at Hamburger Kunsthalle. 12 of the images, including 'The Killer Critic Assassinated by his Widower, Even', 'Juan de la Cruz' and 'The Jewish Rider', are loans from the Astrup Fearnley Collection.

R.B. Kitaj (1932-2007) was, together with David Hockney, Lucian Freud and Frank Auerbach, one of the most important artists from the School of London in the early sixties, which made figurative art at a time when abstract was dominant. This is the first comprehensive retrospective of the American artist's work since his death five years ago. Around 130 paintings, prints and drawings have been gathered together for this exhibition, covering all periods and genres in Kitaj's oeuvre. The exhibition has previously been shown in the Jewish Museum Berlin and lasts until October 27.
