The exhibition Murakami by Murakami with the Japanese contemporary artist Takashi Murakami opened at Astrup Fearnley Museet on Thursday 9 February. So far, the exhibition has had well over 32 000 visitors! Murakami by Murakami is the first solo exhibition by the world-famous artist in Scandinavia. The members opening set a new attendance record with over 1000 guests, and last month’s evening event Art Night hit an all-time visitor record when 1200 young art lovers visited the exhibition.
We are proud and happy to see that the exhibition Murakami by Murakami appeals to a very wide range of audiences! Murakami's art is both visually striking and full of meaning, and the interest that is demonstrated by our visitors so far reflects Murakami’s stated goals about his "super flat" artworks; to communicate with people across borders and create art that can be understood and enjoyed by everyone, says museum Director Gunnar B. Kvaran about the audiences response.
The exhibition Murakami by Murakami is on view at Astrup Fearnley Museet until 14 May 2016.
