Building 2: The Collection

The Boiler Room started in the summer of 2012 as a curator run project room for contemporary art by the Swedish born Art historian and curator Joakim Borda-Pedreira.

The ambition was to create a showroom with a highly competent reputation where established and un-established artists from different generations and nationalities would be presented. It has been especially important to introduce young Swedish artists, to show new or less known aspects of the established and mature Norwegian oeuvre and to create a space for artists from the districts who had not yet had their debut in Oslo. Many of the artists that has exhibited at the Boiler Room has later had many exhibitions, received public decoration projects, scholarships, and has sold their works to institutions and significant collections.

Joakim Borda-Pedreira has been living in Tromsø and Oslo since 2010. He has curated many exhibitions in Norway and abroad and is amongst others a curator for Festspillene i Nord-Norge in the period of 2012-2015, he is an art consultant for KORO, freelance editor and writer of art and industrial art. In his talk he will present how the Boiler Room started and about the financial and curatorial model that is the basis of the gallery.

The talk will be in English.
