Kenneth Anger: lecture and screening
Kl. 16.00: Lecture
Lecture about Kenneth Anger by Lars Movin, Danish writer on American avant-garde film. Screening of Kenneth Anger: Inauguration of the Pleasure Dome at 17.00.
Duration: 60 minutes.
The lecture will be conducted in English.
With a series of nine films, that together are called The Magick Lantern Cycle (created 1947 – 1981), 89-year-old Kenneth Anger took a position as one of the American avant-garde film’s most important figures. As early as 1947, Kenneth Anger began his homoerotic pioneer work Fireworks, and since then he has repeatedly proved to make use of his personal interests – such as the British occultist Aleister Crowley’s universe – into an original form, which has emphasized the zeitgeist and demonstrated new directions within the arts of film production. His main works are relatively few – among these Inauguration of the Pleasure Dome (1954), Scorpio Rising (1963) and Lucifer Rising (1981) – but nevertheless Kenneth Anger has left his mark far beyond the avant-garde film domain.
Author and documentary filmmaker, born in 1959, lives and works in Copenhagen, Denmark. Since 1990, Molvin has published a number of books and documentaries, of which many about American avant-garde art. His film production include The Misfits - 30 Years of Fluxus (1993), Something Wonderful May Happen - New York School of Poets and Beyond (2001) and Words of Advice - William S. Burroughs on the Road (2007). His books include Videologier, Vol. 1-2 (2001-03), Beat – på sporet af den amerikanske beatgeneration (2008) and latest Amerikansk avantgardefilm – fra surrealisme til poesi og politik (2016).
