Queen & King, 2013
Taylor often uses existing image materials to focus attention on African American history. Queen & King is part of a series of works Taylor painted based on historical pictures from the Farm Security Administration’s archive, documenting the impact of the Great Depression on the farmers of the 1930s. Taylor focuses on African American farmers, and presents a different story than the one emerging from the canonised pictures of white farmers.
