Born 1968, England. Lives and works in Berlin.
Ceal Floyer is often described as a post-conceptual artist. Her works may seem modest, but they contain several art historical references – such as Marcel Duchamp’s readymades or the minimalistic and conceptual art from the 1960s, which emphasized the concepts and ideas more than traditional aesthetics and material concerns.
Floyer works in a number of different mediums, but often uses everyday objects to trigger moments of surprise and humor – often by inserting language. Her works are composed with cogitated titles, which function almost as short poetic expressions that encourage us to reconsider our initial reaction to the object.
