Jana Euler’s work often explores concepts of the networked body, and the body orifices and sensory organs.
In the painting Needs I the genitals are composed as a surreal, smiling face. The differences between the public and the private sphere is illustrated in the painting From private to public painting and the streetlight on the way through both the title and composition. This is evident in the combination of oil paint and eye shadow. Eye shadow can be said to be a physical “painting set” that we apply for beautification when we move from the private into the public domain. In this sense, Euler combines the painterly and thematic matters in this work.
