Olafur Eliasson

Born 1967, Iceland. Lives and works in Berlin.

Olafur Eliasson is known for his impressive sculptures, installations and architectural projects.

His work often initiate an active relationship between spectator and object, rather than passive spectatorship. To experience Eliasson’s artworks, one must actively study the phenomena and objects they enclose. The installations explore our relation to construction, nature and the elements. By exposing the viewer to natural elements in an unnatural environment, he urges the spectators to reflect on their understanding and perception of the physical world. In this way, his installations seem to thematise the perception of our surroundings - how we experience light, shapes, temperatures and color.
