Sergej Jensen

Born 1973, Danmark. Lives and works in New York.

Sergej Jensen works both in a figurative and abstract manner, but is widely known for his textile works that combine materials such as burlap, bed sheets, silk and wool.

The works can be perceived as simple and incidental both as carefully planned and constructed. From a distance, his works may resemble abstract and minimalistic paintings, particularly concerning his use of neutral colors and the seemingly random placement of the materials. However, there is nothing coincidental about his artworks. By viewing the works up close, one becomes aware of the distinct compositions based on a thorough visual planning and unique combinations between fabrics, textures and colors.
