In the works of Tauba Auerbach, spatial effects plays a central role in regards both form and content.
The artist draws much of her inspiration from mathematics and physics, but her works also include art historical references that she conveys in her distinct artistic style. Auerbach explores the challenges of depicting the three-dimensional on a two-dimensional canvas, and the relationship between abstraction and representation, as demonstrated in her "fold paintings". She also works with textile, cutting canvases into strips and weaving them together in different patterns. Instead of rendering space and perception by using color, she constructs the surface using structures from the weave patterns.
