Jens Johannessen - Allegory - Paintings

Date
20.10.2002 – 05.01.2003
Location:
Astrup Fearnley Museet (at Dronningensgate 4)

Jens Johannessen (b.1934) is one of post-World War II generation's most important artists, and a natural choice for the Museum's annual presentation of significant Norwegian contemporary artists. Jens Johannessen is an artist who is particularly aware of the painting's history and its possibilities.

He has developed his own artistic language in a transitional period in art history, a period between what has been defined as modern and post-modern art. In Norwegian art history he is the one who most successfully has defined the painting anew and disengaged it from a firmly anchored tradition. In this exhibition the museum presents to the public a number of Jens Johannessen's works from the period 1998-2002.
