Mari Slaattelid - Concealing Redness

19.04.2002 – 23.06.2001
Astrup Fearnley Museet (at Dronningensgate 4)

Mari Slaattelid (b.1960) already had aroused a great deal of attention before 2000, the year in which she won the Carnegie Art Award, the Nordic art world's most prestigious prize. Her most recent works are paintings on acrylic sheets and on aluminium, also adapted photographs. These are steps in her examination of the picture as a medium, of conventions and expectations in what we are seeing, of colours that are something other than they appear to be, of subjects that can be both completely innocent and filled with underlying meanings.
